Since the early 1950's, television, with much controversy and comment, has taken over American life. Television reflects American culture and it also makes American culture. You can learn a great deal about American life and values by watching television, but television does not tell the whole story. America is a culturally rich nation, and television often misses the mark. The medium has never quite fulfilled its great potential.
